My Freshman Year
I actually found "My Freshman Year" interesting. While reading this, I found many things that were really informative to me considering I have not yet personally experienced my freshman year in college. However, if I saw an older woman walking around in the dorms, I would think that it would be odd and unusual. It may even make me feel uncomfortable. I can relate to chapter 2 Life In the Dorms only because I just recently helped my friends move into theirs. I personally remember all the stuff laying in the halls that was being moved in from students providing a lot of commotion, just as it was explained in this story. I also remember noticing many bulletin board displays in the residence hall, mainly focusing on rape and sexual assault warnings. Although I find it unusual that a teacher would try to take the role of a college student, I think it is awesome that she received a better understand of students in college. It's amazing that teachers don't exactly know what the student life is all about, even though they have students in their classrooms.
Ethnography As I was reading On Ethnography, I could not connect or relate to anything and I found it to be a little uninteresting. However, I did learn many things that I did not know about. Such as, in most nations around the world it is normal to learn several different languages before reaching five years old. I find this to be unexpected or maybe a little unusual considering it isn't expected upon kids in America. I would love to be able to speak at least two different languages and be fluent in both! I also was unaware that children in South Africa villages often understand and speak as many as five languages before they go to school and then only learn to read and write two of those languages.
